I’d expect the real experts and expertise in the spectrum of technologies required for SDCs (embedded systems, computer vision, radar and sensing, RF and communications, systems integration, systems engineering, quality assurance, etc.) to reside in the defense contractors (ie: Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, L-3, etc.). Not in the social-media-centric tech companies who are merely running this self-driving car schtick as some sort of sideshow to convince investors there’s actually a future of growth outside of the highly saturated world of online advertising.
The people really talented with the technology involved with SDCs mostly work in silence. They aren’t flashy. Most of them probably have Asperger’s syndrome to some extent. They work at one of the defense companies and make maybe $150k/year, have 2 kids, a dog, and maybe a double garage.
