16. 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort – $1,100,000 (Gooding & Company)

The incredible Porsche 959 boasted a 450-hp twin-turbocharged flat-six with water-cooled heads, a variable all-wheel-drive system, and carbon-fiber bodywork. Devised for the crazy world of Group B rally competition, the road-legal homologation car was dubbed Komfort, and the comforts it offered beyond those of the rally included the heated, electrically adjustable sport seats found in this example, which began life as a resident of the famed Matsuda Porsche Museum in Japan. Imported to the United States under the “show or display” exemption in 01, it has changed hands several times since. The Gooding catalog noted that it has received only minimal service since 09 and may need some fettling, but it has less than 5000 miles on its odometer (7400 kilometers, actually) and, now that it’s more than 25 years old, is no longer subject to the show/display restrictions.—Kevin A.
