the Best and What You Need to Know. With so many assistance plans out there, how can you be sure you have selected to best one? Of course, everyone may have different requirements when it comes to the assistance they would need in the event of a emergency. We will cover some of the things you may want to consider if you ever find yourself in need of roadside assistance.

Selecting the Best Roadside Assistance Plan

You are in the middle of nowhere and your car breaks down, now what? Hopefully, you have a roadside assistance plan. But does your plan cover you and your vehicle? Most importantly, the roadside assistance plan should cover you, no matter what vehicle you are driving. The best plan should be able to meet all of your needs; while still being affordable enough to fit your budget. There are many more things to consider as well, and we will also cover them below. But first, let’s let’s go over the different categories of these plans.

Selecting the Best Roadside Assistance Plan

Free Plans: These plans will usually be included when you buy a new car. The car dealership will offer this plan as an incentive to purchase a vehicle from them. Be aware though, these plans will cover very little. Usually just a tow to the nearest service center; and they have a limit on how far they will tow it for free. These plans are also often included with your auto insurance coverage. Be sure to contact your insurance agent and that you get a copy of what is covered.

Add-On Plans: An add-on plan will usually be provided by a business such as Sam’s Club or AARP. With these plans, you will pay a membership fee, and will then be covered by a specific roadside plan. Always read your contract to be sure it will provide the coverage you need. These plans are also available through some insurance plans as an add-on and available at an additional charge but the additional charge is rolled into your premium as a separate line item. These plans will also usually have limitations on the services they offer, as they are serviced by other contractors.

Stand-Alone Plans: Stand-Alone Plans may also offer clients roadside assistance based on the specific needs of the driver or policy owner. Some examples might be someone looking for a family plan or coverage for a teenage driver. These plans may cost more because they are based on individual needs.

What to look for in a plan –

24/7/365 Coverage: Does the plan offer assistance at any time of the day or night? If your car breaks down at 3 am on a Sunday morning, will someone be able to provide assistance?

Towing Service: This should be a basic requirement for any roadside plan. At the very least they should offer to tow your car to the nearest service facility. If the plan does not include this service, look elsewhere. Being stranded on the side of the road is not something you want to experience.

Services Provided: What services does the plan cover? Look for a plan that also covers things like vehicle lockout, fuel delivery, and tire service. These are the basic services that any good plan should include. There may be other essential services as well.

Extras and Discounts: Some plans will offer extra incentives and discounts that you can use for hotels, car rentals, repair shops, and other goods and services. Find out what extras and discounts your plan includes.

Response Time: Find out what their average response time is. There is nothing worse than sitting in your car in the middle of summer in Arizona waiting for help to arrive.

Service Area: Make sure your plan will be able to cover you no matter where you are in the United States. Breakdowns can happen anywhere, even when you are thousands of miles from your home. If you travel a lot, it’s very important to make sure your plan will provide coverage wherever you need it.

Customer Service: How good is their customer service? Look for reviews and ask friends and family who they have used. If they have a bad history of providing good service, keep looking. A roadside service is only as good as the people who provide the service.
