Motor oil needs to be the correct consistenancy and viscosity. The types of oils are measured by how thick or thin it is and determines how fast it flows. During winter, you need a lower viscosity oil to account for the slowing that happens in the harsher winter temperature.
The varieties of engine oil are given a rating code by the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE) — 5W30 for example. The lower the W number, the better the engine oil will work in the colder winter temperature. We recommend using 5W oil for winter use. Need an oil change?
