Bollinger Motors B2 EV pickup announced

Bollinger Motors has been busy prepping its B1 all-electric “sport utility truck,” as the company refers to its hardcore, off-road work vehicle. The rugged EV has been seen testing on- and off-road, including some cool footage from the track. We recently had the chance to meet up with the Bollinger folks to see the B1 in the flesh (more on that soon) and talk about the company’s next steps. One major announcement is making is that it will follow the B1 with a proper , another all-electric beast called the .

Bollinger has learned a lot throughout the development of the B1 — including how capable it is and how much people seem to love it — and applying those lessons and technology to the B2 pickup. The B2 will share the same electric all-wheel-drive system, with a 120-kWh battery pack powering a pair of electric . The same trick hydropneumatic suspension and in-wheel portal gear hubs will allow this thing some serious ground clearance.

The big difference will come from having a proper pickup bed, which is 49 inches wide by 69 inches long. With the internal tailgate at the back of the cab flipped down, it can accommodate full sheets of plywood — up to 72 of them with the rear glass opened. With the B2 classified as a Class 3 Truck, it will have a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 pounds, and a payload of 5,000 pounds.

Of the B2 electric pickup, Bollinger Motors founder, CEO and designer Robert Bollinger said:

“The new B2 incorporates everything that we’ve learned in making the B1, and takes it in an exciting new direction. It’s always been the plan to have both the B1 and B2 start off our lineup. Now that we have so much incredible data from testing our B1 prototype, we can put all of that engineering knowledge into our final four-door B1 and B2 vehicles. It’s the pickup I always wanted and something crazy better than what’s available on the market today.”

Bollinger plans to build the B2 pickup on the same assembly line as the B1 in 2020. The company will announce more details about options and pricing next year.
